A snake bite? - Nope a tic bite!

Lucky had been looking rather thin and sluggish and Richard spotted tics on her.

Ticks and mites are the most common external parasites found on snakes and can pose a real threat to the health of a snake. Ticks feed on blood and may cause anemia, leaving Lucy weakened and susceptible to disease. One morning, while Lucy was sun bathing, we managed to get hold of her and remove the ticks- the only known remedy. We are unsure if this will have saved our reptilian friend but it was a quick and effective removal of three large tics.

Snakes form a key link in the food chain. They act as predators, and as prey. They help maintain a healthy ecosystem and environment. In Australia, we might forget that snakes and other reptiles make up a significant proportion of the middle-order predators that keep our natural ecosystems working.  Amazing creatures that need lots of habitat and wild places.
