Lots has been going on at Whiptail, what a great journey it is to build with community, friends and wallaby's! As in all great journey's, there are those sticky moments, those moments of cows and also ...chickens? But perhaps we will save those stories for after we are finished ;) as we are now on the home stretch! Over the last few weeks we have done the final build coat of lime render on the outside and will complete the outside render in the first weekend of August, also we have put in the second water tank, roughed in the plumbing, had the solar hot water system delivered, Solar panels wired up and all ready for the "new" salt water batteries, sealed the North entry, built the stairs up to the Nature Loo composting toilet, sanded and dressed the skirting boards and ripped the architrave. Plus all the rest that goes along with...
Shearwater Steiner School from Mullumbimby were back for their second year and from what I hear we might have two year 5 classes next year. With luck it may be the start of a new ongoing relationship with the school.
As always with our Steiner kids, that while they can be an unruly bunch their spirits soar and they love engaging with the natural world. It’s testimony to the Earthkeepers program that it continues to excite learners into each step of the program pulling rather than pushing participants to want to experience what’s next while captivating them at each step along the journey. Learning to be an Earthkeeper requires knowledge and understanding as to how the natural world works, experiencing it through using all of our senses and then taking responsibility for our actions by living more lightly on the planet while sharing it all with others.
We look forward to returning to Mullum to see the children again and hand out their Y and S keys early next term. Go you good things!
The power of magic spots reaches out to not only children.
On our recent Earthkeepers Camp with Samford Valley Steiner School one of the accompanying dads had this to share when we lifted the veil of silence.
