A-frame Accommodation

On the western face of the ridge, the campsite of Wild Mountains offers views of the Scenic Rim from the campfire and permanent A-frame elevated tents. Each “tent” sleeps 10 comfortably on a timber floor, beneath a frame of recycled cypress pine dismantled from a woolshed at St George by a faithful team of Wild Mountains Volunteers and plywood linings are salvaged from packing cases.

The four A-frames each have an LED light and foam mattresses. While a composting toilet and barrel of water are provided, the main amenities are at the Main Hall, a short walk away at the Wild Mountains centre. The accommodation provides comfortable shelter and is a demonstration of the least necessary. Structures are minimal to keep the views open.

This is a wonderful place for school groups, families, and volunteers to camp and have an authentic Wild Mountains experience. This is often the place for a sunset gathering by the campfire overlooking the stunning mountain views.
